MODUS (UK) Go-Go Shake |
Motown recently turned fifty but for a real good sixties soul sound I advise you to go to Hammond Beat records instead! Especially their new release “Sounds from the Kitten Casino” by Modus is a perfect soundtrack for that era! Thumbing Bass Lines, big Hammond sounds and a distinctive voice by Miss Modus are the main ingredients for this great album. From opener Gogo Shake over Soul of the Zodiac to Club Soul Magic, the sound is a non-stopping movie of the soul scene! A music scene long forgotten and regarded as obsolete by many is wonderfully revived by the golden voice of Miss Modus! “The snake” even reminds us on the golden duo of pop, Brian Auger & Julie Driscoll, while the jazzy “How Do you do” shines a light on a total different spectrum of the mod scenery! “Illusion” is a bit mystifying due to the sultry voice of Miss Modus but on “Soul Time” the band is back! Swinging like any old good soul legend, the sound is perfectly crafted from the many influences from that time! “Sam and Dave”, “Booker T”, “Joe Tex” and assorted artists where quite fine for a time but true lovers of soul will dig this great album for sure. “Sounds from the Kitten Casino” is a must for your bachelor pad but believe me any party animal will fall for this extra ordinary album!
